Welcome to Teener Thoroughbreds

Teener Thoroughbreds is a private stable based in northern Illinois involved in Thoroughbred racing and rehoming. We are a small operation focused on the fun of the sport and the quality of care to our horses. On occasion we offer horses for sale from our stable or from other race owners.

We are true Thoroughbred fans looking at the full picture.

Racing
From day one we focus on the horse’s needs and set them up for success by building a solid foundation in their training, never sacrificing the horse’s needs for our own. This top rate care makes a well conditioned athlete who will not only perform at the top of his game but enjoy himself as he works resulting in optimal success.

Rehoming
A Thoroughbred’s life after the races can go several different paths due to their versatility and athleticism. Teener Thoroughbreds are promoters for these horses, offering training during their transition time from the track to their new home. We are not a rescue or a non-profit. Browse our website for more information on rehoming or buying an off track Thoroughbred (ottb).

Kentucky Derby 2013

Since I am still in the ‘honeymoon’ phase of the Derby this year, I feel like sharing some thoughts on it!

I remember reading an article somewhere a few years ago, perhaps in the Bloodhorse, that our next Triple Crown winner was going to be in the year 2013. This was not a ‘prediction’, there was math and science behind the claim. After all these years, we want to see it happen! (Or at least, I do)

So can Orb be the one? Every Kentucky Derby winner seems to be up for the task, ready for the Triple Crown, but as we have seen all too many times it just doesn’t happen. So what will set Orb apart?

Let’s talk about Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey. This is the right trainer for the Triple Crown. Orb will be fit and ready physically and mentally. I am so happy for Shug on this win. When I was working at the track, his stakes horses would ship in to our barn to race. My boss used to gallop for him so she was his contact out at Arlington. I felt so honored his horses came in our shedrow. In every major race I am always cheering for him. At last he gets his much earned Derby.

The jockey, Joel Rosario, is metaphorically on fire. He was aboard Animal Kingdom for the win in Dubai and raced an epic meet at Keenland this past season. When jockeys are riding good, they are good. He will keep this up, he isn’t slowing down now after a Derby win!

Orb’s pedigree and his owners mark on racing history just make it seem right. This should be the guy!

Across my desk I have a black and white framed picture of Ruffian. I have many other photos, but that picture stands out. She is jogging before a morning work, head up in the air but relaxed, her gait is only at half of its potential. It is chilling, yet beautiful. Orb has a relation to Ruffian through her half sister Laughter. Sure, it is pretty far back in the pedigree, but if there is just a little bit of Ruffian hidden deep down in his DNA, that horse is going to run. Orb is going to run and he isn’t going to stop running.

Go Orb!

April Showers

Sure seems like April has been nothing but rain. April showers bring May flowers? Oh, and events like the Kentucky Derby and Rolex!!!

April isn’t over, but as I have some time this morning to review I’ll go right ahead.

The horses moved to Dynasty farm (Calusa is coming this weekend) and my friend Lisa and her horse Storm moved to South Carolina! She started a blog, you can check it out here:
http://midsummernightstorm.blogspot.com/ . That is a lot of moving!

A big chunk of energy went to the Midwest Horse Fair last weekend. Things didn’t really go as planned as I was a bit unprepared with how much I was actually doing up there. Everything turned out alright though thanks to some awesome people and of course, some amazing horses. Ride Right is spreading through the area, so happy to have the opportunity to reach out to so many people.

Although April seems to have put a literal ‘dark cloud’ over us, over all the horses are in gear, turning in good rides. The riders are staying focused, perhaps looking at the light at the end of the tunnel (the sun?).
